Mr. Hammer, co-founder of The Africa Channel, brings with him 25 years of hands-on senior management experience in the global television industry, with special expertise in network start-ups on the African Continent.

In 2001, Mr. Hammer was selected as part of a strategic team assigned to launch a new pan-African television network, the African Broadcast Network ( ABN ), in Johannesburg , South Africa . During his tenure there he was responsible for the areas of corporate and network branding, marketing, promotion and media relations. He also served as supervising producer in charge of program reversioning.

Mr. Hammer has also spent significant time in Dar Es Salaam , Tanzania , serving as a consultant to the East African television station ITV. There, he played a critical role in the relaunch, repositioning and rebranding of the station in the market.

Domestically, Mr. Hammer served as vice president, advertising, promotion and publicity at both WFLD-TV/Chicago and WOR -TV/ New York . He relocated to Los Angeles in 1983 where he held senior management positions at several public relations firms, supervising corporate entertainment accounts, as well as a senior management position at Columbia Pictures Television.
